To ensure a safe and enjoyable fishing experience, we ask all anglers to follow a few basic guidelines. Please review the key rules below, and for the full list, refer to your ticket. By adhering to these rules, you'll help maintain a high standard of fishing and preserve the quality of our waters. Happy fishing!
PLEASE BE AWARE, THAT WHEN PURCHASING A BARNSLEY TROUT CLUB FISHING TICKET, YOU AGREE TO ABIDE BY
THE FISHERY RULES AS WRITTEN ON THE REVERSE OF YOUR TICKET. FISHERY BAILIFFS ARE ALWAYS PRESENT
ON THE BANKSIDE AND CONDUCT REGULAR BAG CHECKS.
We reserve the right to refuse tickets should anglers not be in compliance with our fishery rules or fishing tackle requirements.
RULES
Rules
1. Yorkshire Water Rules, as displayed in the car park, must be adhered to.
2. Please respect the disabled parking bays and one-way car park entry/exit.
3. Bailiffs may conduct bag checks.
4. No drugs, alcohol, or antisocial behaviour.
Fishing Regulations
5. Fishing is only allowed between 8 AM and 8 PM but must cease at sunset during winter months.
6. Anglers must carry proof of holding a valid Environment Agency License when fishing at Barnsley Trout Club.
7. No fishing or walking on the dam wall.
8. Only one single rod and line may be used at any one time.
9. Fishing Methods: fly, spinning, and bait. The only baits allowed are worm, maggot, and caster. Spinners must be Mepps type and equipped with only one hook.
Fish Handling and Conservation
10. No passing on of fish on the bankside.
11. No litter, discarded line, or hooks to be left on the bankside.
12. Landing nets must be dipped at the designated net dip before fishing.
13. A landing net must be carried at all times and used when landing fish.
14. No object, other than a priest, is to be used to dispatch fish.
15. Cloths (of any description) must not be used when handling fish that are to be returned to the water.
16. Live fish must NOT be kept in nets or containers.
17. Anglers must NOT purposely capture, injure, or kill wildlife.
Hook and Tackle Restrictions
18. Barbless or correctly de-barbed hooks only.
19. Maximum hook sizes:
• Size 8 for spinner
• Size 10 for fly
•Size 12 for bait
20. No treble hooks or modified treble hooks.
21. No Booby pattern floating flies to be fished on sinking lines.
22. Only fly fishermen may use multiple hooks, but not more than one point fly and two droppers.
Catch Limits and Fish Return Rules
23. Brown Trout and coarse fish must be carefully returned to the water.
24. Rainbow and Blue Trout under 28cm (11”) must be carefully returned to the water.
25. Fish Take Limit:
• Day Ticket – 2 fish
• Evening Ticket – 1 fish
• Junior Ticket – Catch and release
Safety and Conduct
26. Children under 13 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
27. No fires or barbecues.
28. No tents allowed.
29. Dogs must be kept on a lead and under control at all times.
30. No wading above the knee.
31. Fly fishermen may unhook fish in the water when wading.
