Over 65 Years of Exceptional Trout Fishing in the
Heart of the Pennines
Founded in 1958, Barnsley Trout Club has been providing exceptional trout fishing experiences for over six decades. Our home water, Scout Dike Reservoir, is nestled just above the historic market town of Penistone. Situated in the picturesque foothills of the Pennines and on the edge of the Peak District National Park, the reservoir is not only a premier trout fishery but also a sanctuary for diverse wildlife.
Scout Dike Reservoir boasts a thriving population of native brown trout, with some specimens reaching double figures, alongside regularly stocked rainbow and blue trout ranging from 1.5 lbs to double figures. Stocking takes place from March 1st to November 30th each year, ensuring an outstanding angling experience throughout the season.
While the majority of our 300 members are dedicated fly anglers, we also welcome lure and bait fishing—an inclusive approach that distinguishes us from most trout fisheries in the UK.
We take pride in offering exceptional value through our memberships and competitively priced tickets. While membership remains at the core of our club, we provide a limited number of tickets for visiting anglers, allowing more people to experience the natural beauty and outstanding trout fishing we have to offer.
Whether you are a seasoned angler or new to the sport, Barnsley Trout Club promises an unforgettable fishing experience in one of South Yorkshire’s most scenic locations.
We warmly invite you to visit and discover all that we have to offer. Our dedicated team of bailiffs is always on hand to provide a warm welcome, as well as expert guidance and assistance.
